More Than Just a Bunch of Bal(l)o(o)ney

The aftermath of a party or a special celebration is always an inglorious affair. It's not just about dealing with your own post-celebration mood and the inevitable comedown; there's also the less-than-thrilling task of cleaning up.

Sorting through the remnants can range from tedious to exhausting, depending on the nature of the gathering you hosted – whether it was a chaotic children's party, a rowdy teenage bash, a subdued adult affair, or a festive holiday event like Carnival or St. Valentine's Day. But, regardless of the type of party, one thing remains constant: there's always a mountain of trash to dispose of.

Amidst the debris, you might come across leftover balloons. Before tossing them aside, consider a creative alternative: gather them up and fashion them into something new for yourself. With just a few additional materials like thread (ideally metal) and some balloons, you can whip up a spur-of-the-moment necklace (just knot the deflated balloons around the thread, make sure the thread is thick enough to support the balloons).

The balloons I used in my case had a pastel goth vibe, resulting in a cute, almost kawaii look, but you could opt for brighter hues for an extra dose of fun.

Sure, there's the possibility of developing a skin rash from the cheap latex of the balloons, but this can be easily avoided by wearing the necklace over a T-shirt instead of directly against your skin.

And despite any potential drawbacks, it will bring a smile on your face and on other people's. Because the trick in this life is not just to keep breathing as that Janice Galloway novel and that Garbage song said, but in finding reasons to smile and laugh along the way.

And, for further inspirations, ask Artificial Intelligence to come up with a balloon necklace and see what it comes up with – though Midjourney seems to think you can only wear an inflated balloon necklace (that ends up giving a Jeff Koons vibe…).
