Under The Radar (For Italian Art Fans): Mazzoleni @ The Salon Art + Design, New York

Mondays do not need to be dreadful affairs, especially if you find inspirational reasons that can take you through the week such as The Salon Art + Design fair that will be taking place at Park Avenue Armory, in New York (9th to 13th November). Mazzoleni is among the galleries that will be taking part in the event with a selection of works from some of the most important Italian artists of the 20th century.

Founded in Turin in 1986 as a development of Giovanni and Anna Pia Mazzoleni's personal collection that included Surrealist, Futurist and Abstract artworks, Mazzoleni expanded to London three years ago, organising solo and group exhibitions of prominent Italian and international artists from the 1900s and mainly focusing on Post-War art. In the most recent years the gallery has joined a number of international art fairs in Basel, Hong Kong, London, Miami, New York and Paris. Alviani_SuperficieaTesturavibratileAmong Mazzoleni's highlights at The Salon Art + Design Fair there will be a version of Giorgio de Chirico's famed "Le Muse Inquietanti" (The Disquieting Muse) painted by the artist in 1951, but fashion and graphic designers will maybe find more inspiring Giacomo Balla's Futurist "Linee forza di mare (mattino)" (Force lines of the sea, Morning, 1919) with its patterns of soft geometries creating dynamic figures, while jewellery designers should check out the composition, metallic shades and textures of Getulio Alviani's "Superficie a Testura Vibrante" (Surface with Vibrating Surface, 1962) and Fausto Melotti's kinetic sculpture "Contrappunto XI" (Counterpoint XI;1974). Have an inspiring arty Monday!
