Monditalia @ The 14th International Venice Architecture Exhibition |

Italy commemorates today the Festa della Repubblica (Republic Day), but the celebrations will indirectly extend till later on this week.

The country will indeed receive further special tributes at 14th International Venice Architecture Exhibition. The event, directed by Rem Koolhaas and officially opening on Saturday, will include a section at the Arsenale entitled "Monditalia", analysing several spects linked with Italy and themes such as architecture, art, politics, economics and technology – through exhibitions, events, films and theatrical productions.

This portrait of Italy as the host country will also feature a project by photographers Alessandro Imbriaco and Tommaso Bonaventura and journalist and curator Fabio Severo.

Entitled "Immediate Surroundings. Residences of Italian Mafia Organizations", the project prompts visitors to sit down and think as it looks at the locations picked by mafia bosses as their residences and cleverly tries to analyse the changes occurred in the criminal organisation as reflected in the locations picked by the bosses. The castles that symbolised a domination of the landscape have recently been replaced by villas perfectly integrating in it and therefore hinting at the invisible presence of criminal organisations in specific territories.
