Going MAD at “Paperball”

BLUE_update_rs Summer holidays have sadly gone and while the fashion circus will soon be starting again with the Spring/Summer 2010 catwalk shows, if, while passing through New York for the local fashion week you will be on the lookout for something more exciting than just endless displays of clothes, check out the appointments at the MAD (Museum of Art and Design).

The September calendar offers the chance of taking part in studio demonstrations and other events, comprising jewellery workshops, ideal to examine the main materials and techniques used in the making of contemporary jewellery, seminars on fibre sculpture and ceramics and even a rather unusual lecture during which Former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will share her personal stories of how she used her vast collection of brooches to make diplomatic history and talk about the exhibition "Read My Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection" (scheduled at the MAD from 30th September 2009 to 31st January 2010).

The best event is scheduled for the 14th October, though, and it's an art, fashion and design dining gala fundraiser celebrating MAD’s One Year “Paper” Anniversary.

The event includes renowned DJs and famous icons from the world of fashion, architecture and design (the list, as you can see from this image, is long and features many exciting artists).

Paper dresses, accessories and objects will be created for the occasion and sold at an auction and there will also be a "Paper Under the Knife" exhibition featuring cut, torn, burned and shredded paper. There are different types of tickets, ranging from $150 to $1,000 and you can purchase them here.
