August is inexorably slipping away and the transition from vacation mode to work mode is upon us. Whether you're reluctantly bidding farewell to your holidays or eagerly embarking on a well-deserved escape, find some inspirations in the vintage image captured on the cover of Life magazine (27th of August 1945 issue), showing a woman plunging in a pool.
The issue included a feature about classical dancers performing underwater photographed by American press photographer Walter Sanders from a window in Los Angeles' Town House pool.
At the time, the world was emerging from the shadows of the Second World War, which had drawn to a close in May 1945 (the issue featured long articles and several pages of images about the celebrations for the end of the war), so the ballerina executing in the pictures graceful arabesques and grand jetés beneath the water's surface in bikinis or tutus, was a poignant representation of freedom, beauty and renewal.
So, whether you're already missing those easygoing summer days or gearing up to plunge back into your work routine (pun intended, sorry!), just take a moment to let the elegance of these early underwater performers inspire you as August winds down.
