In yesterday's post we looked at layered artworks and architectural objects. Let's continue the thread, but move onto accessories with this architectural vintage bag (c. 1950) by Ann Ellis from The Museum at FIT archive.
Dubbed the Champagne Hour bag, it was made from graduating ribs of dark brown leather stitched together with clear, nylon string, and hinged at elongated ends, and was completed by a ring-shaped handle. Rather than a form follows function case, the bag represents the function follows form principles. The designer focused indeed on creating something characterised by a very unique shape, while the function of the bag remained almost secondary in this case.
