The Clash's Paul Simonon once stated that pink is "the only true rock'n'roll colour" and, while for some pink is punk and for others it is a threatening shade, for today let's look at pink as a cool colour in vintage posters.
Two Japanese posters - for Michelangelo Antonioni's "Blow-up" (1966) and for Stanley Donen's 1957 film "Funny Face" - included in Sotheby's auction of original movie posters (on until tomorrow) are indeed characterised by this shade.
In the former the colour is limited to the bold lettering style, but creates a great effect with the dark aqua green background; in the latter, a part of the background and Audrey Hepburn's belt and large ribbons on her hat, are coloured with this shade, a reference to the joyous number "Think Pink!" featured in this film. In both cases pink looks like the perfect shade to start the week in a positive and inspiring way.
