It's the first weekend of the year, so the best option is maybe trying to do something creative with materials that we usually have lying around the house after the Christmas and New Year's celebrations. If you had a toast to celebrate the arrival of 2021, you may have still around the champagne cork (some of us may have even saved a spare one from a bottle opened on a special occasion).
So get it out and just do with it a quick impromptu piece of jewellery inspired by Maison Martin Margiela's champagne cork necklace.
The piece first debuted in Margiela's Autumn/Winter 1989 collection and the champagne cork necklace reappared at the brand's 1999 show (in that occasion Margiela also invited customers to use their corks, popped from the first bottle opened in the year 2000).
The necklace is extremely simple since it consists of a champagne cork attached to a basic ribbon (grosgrain looks better for this project) and you can paint white or black the metal seal of the cork or leave it as it is if you prefer.
For further tips on how to create this piece, you can check out the beginning of the documentary "Martin Margiela: In His Own Words" by Reiner Holzemer with the camera focusing on Margiela's hands crafting the necklace. Have fun with this project!
