In the past we often celebrated the new year with a fashion illustration, almost a symbolic postcard virtually sent to all readers. So let's continue the tradition today with an arty illustration from a champagne advert.
The illustration in this post, by René Gruau, shows a stylish lady in an elegant yellow gown sipping champagne from a chalice offered to her by a man standing out of the frame (a classic Gruau trick that allows the viewer to imagine the illustration extending in another dimension, outside of the frame of the advert).
The advert inspires a festive mood, the yellow shade of the gown, matching with that of the champagne. While being a sober image, the illustration still brings a sense of happiness and joy and it also goes well with Pantone's choice for the 2021 colour of the year, a shade that is usually employed as the starting point for the palettes that will then prove popular with consumers in fashion, graphic and interior design.
For this year actually the Pantone Institute chose two shades, Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating, a combination of colours symbolising how different elements can come together to support one another, generating a sense of warmth, optimism, energy, clarity and hope against uncertainty and adversity. May 2021 be for you all a genuinely new start and bring you joy, happiness and health. Happy New Year!
