Yesterday's post closed with a focus on nature and architecture, let's continue along the same line and look at nature and interior design with some pieces created by Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman.
Made in collaboration with Giorgio Linea Tuscany and available at VGO Associates gallery, the Passiflora Seat consists in a bent perforated industrial plate structure covered with a series of soft leather flowers.
The flowers are hand-tied and fixed by chrome rings onto the structure and the piece evokes the possibility of sitting among a meadow of blooming passion flowers. The seat is bouncy and cosy and the cold metal is harmoniously reconciled with the warmth of the leather flowers, as the industrial meets the artisanal.
Galante and Lancman have always been interested in the forms of nature theme and these inspirations keep on returning in Galante's costumes and Haute Couture designs as well, but in their interior design pieces they are interpreted in very special ways as proved by this chair, but also by merely decorative pieces like the "Embroidered Birds".
This series consists in porcelain sculptures of parrots, owls and crows, covered in layers of silk organza decorated with a single glass bead, a technique borrowed from Haute Couture and already employed by Galante in his previous designs.
The layered organza technique works particularly well to recreate the ruffled feathers of birds and the organza in different colours also helps creating wonderful nuances in the plumage.
As this is a work-in-progress project at the moment we don't really know if these new pieces by Maurizio Galante & Tal Lancman will be showcased at any interior design fair maybe next year or if they will become part of a fashion showcase or exhibition. Hopefully we will discover it soon as the craftsmanship behind these pieces fills your eyes with colour and your heart with (some much-needed) optimism, besides they could also be considered as sustainable artworks as they could be made with fabric leftovers from a fashion collection.
