As a follow up to Kenzo's obituary, let's look up today at his sewing patterns. In the '70s, the Japanese designer released indeed patterns with Butterick.
It's actually not so difficult to find some of them on sale on sites such as eBay: the most interesting thing about them is that the Kenzo for Butterick collection featured a wide range of patterns.
Kenzo released for Butterick patterns for men and women's shirts, skirts, pants and shorts, but also semi-fitted shirtdresses, loose-fitting shirts with attached scarf collars, coats, capes and accessories as well.
Among the most interesting sewing patterns there is one relating to a coat with a detachable, circular cape, and another to make a top with a qipao style asymmetrical fastening with a matching bag.
So look for your favourite Kenzo vintage pattern online and try to recreate, update and reinvent one of his designs at home.
