Many of us who are currently in lockdown due to Coronavirus and have some spare time are trying to make surgical masks that may turn useful to go out for the bare necessities. But, if you like sewing, have some fabrics and want to take your mind off the news about the pandemic, get busy with a longer project.
Try for example making a light coat or a dress (as usual, if you're not sure about what you're doing, start making a doll's size dress to have some fun in miniature): as inspiration I'm posting here two looks from the cover of an issue of Italian magazine Annabella (April 1960).
The magazine suggested to opt for a bright and uplifting colour for these designs, such as yellow (very apt for our times as well...if life gives you lemons...let's get ourselves busy with a creative project). Annabella offered some suggestions for the fabrics as well: gabardine, shantung, silk and wool blend or alpaca for the trapeze-shaped coat; gabardine or shantung for the amphora-shaped dress characterised by a fitted bust with darts.
The following pattern was designed for an Italian 46 size (size 14 in the UK; and 12 in the USA) and each square corresponds to 10 cm. [Coat parts: 1. Half back; 2. Half front; 3. Pocket; 4. Sleeve; Dress parts: 6. Half bust (Back); 7. Half bust (Front); 8. Belt; 9. Sleeve; 10. Skirt]. Enjoy!
