Dark days are upon us as the Coronavirus crisis that started in China is spreading all over the world. Face masks have become a key accessory, even though they don't guarantee the wearer will not get sick. Still, face masks prove effective at capturing droplets and protecting the wearer from contact with someone infected.
Let's hope the Coronavirus emergency will be over as soon as possible and that a vaccine will be found, so that masks will go back to be a fancy fashion accessory on runways, rather than an everyday necessity.
In the meantime, to take our minds off surgical masks (especially if you're reading this while in quarantine or in a country that has opted for a partial or total lockdown), let's look at some of the latest full face masks by Tomihiro Kono (河野富広).
The Japanese hair and wig artist and head prop designer makes them using a tulle-like base on which he applies hair, from kiss curls (see the styles in the series "Floral Beings" by Sayaka Maruyama, with the wigs expanding on the masks like alien tendrils) to mohawks (like the spiky ones Kono did for Korean band Hyukoh).
