Tomihiro Kono (河野富広) takes over the site from today to introduce us his second book Personas 111 - The Art of Wig Making 2017-2020 for which I had the honour of writing the introduction.
The New York-based Japanese hair artist has been focusing on the last 20 years on hair styling (he has collaborated with fashion designers Junya Watanabe and Aganovich for a few seasons) and head prop design.
Three years ago Konomad Editions published the 232-page volume Head Prop: Studies 2013-2016 (distributed internationally by Idea Books), a very intriguing documentation of the sculptural works the hair stylist created over three years.
From 2017, Kono has been focusing on handmade wigs, coming up with exhibitions, from Paris to Tokyo, that engaged the public in fun ways and during which he asked visitors to wear his wigs as if they were masks and radically transform themselves in this way.
Personas 111 features a selection of Tomihiro Kono's wigs photographed by artist Sayaka Maruyama and will be out on 15th March 2020 on Konomad. Stay tuned to discover more about it.
