In a previous post we looked at new collections for the S/S 20 season characterised by stripes. In that post we mentioned that stripes have always been fashionable, so let's go back in time to November 1948.
This image from the cover of Italian magazine Lei shows a dress by Jacques Heim. The sepia cover doesn't make it justice, but the original dress came in an Autumnal palette - lead grey with dark yellow and brick red stripes (the magazine suggested that it would have been intriguing to see it also in different colour combinations). The dress silhouette was simple, but it featured a clever element - an ingeniously designed belted motif around the hips that created a dynamic movement, breaking the linear regularity of the stripes.
