A major exhibition dedicated to Christian Dior has just opened at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. While it is a grand and exhaustive (more about it later on, hopefully) event, it doesn't obviously feature every single piece by the French couturier.
A good way to discover more about Dior's designs if you're a fan or if you have just seen the exhibition and would like to build your own Dior archive, is to leaf through vintage magazines from the '40s-'50s.
Some of them feature indeed a lot of pictures dedicated to French fashion and designs that you may not be able to find in books, on the Internet or included in museum exhibitions.
This cover of Italian magazine Annabella from October 1952 features for example a design that inspired other coats included in the V&A exhibition.
This collarless double-breasted grey velvet tweed frock coat had a key detail - it fastened with 7 buttons, one located in the centre of the waist to create a visually striking effect and a cinched waistline highlighted also by the contrast between the shoulder line that followed the natural curve of the body and the full skirt of the frock coat that also integrated practical pockets. It's your turn now: do your research and find some designs that are not included in the "Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams" event at the V&A.
