The last few posts had a cinematic thread about them, so let's start the new year with a festive costume from a film, the silvery gown from Christopher Strong (1933) directed by Dorothy Arzner.
The film - starring Colin Clive (Sir Christopher Strong) and Katharine Hepburn (Lady Cynthia Darrington) - is a tale of illicit love. This gown was donned by Hepburn for a costume party and was designed by Walter Plunkett and this costume inspired the Italian title of the film - La falena d'argento (The Silver Moth).
Somehow its form-fitting silhouette and the antennae on the cloche hat call to mind modern creations such as Thierry Mugler's glamorous insect designs. May 2017 bring you good health, happiness and joy!
