Mondays can be difficult days, that's why we're starting this week with three inspirations revolving around one shade - blue - that will hopefully engage different senses.
The first inspiration is this Stenberg Brothers' poster for "The Song of the Tundra" (1922-1924). This well-arranged composition is particularly interesting for the contrasts between the man clad in a blue suit and the woman, with her scarf and shirt in a printed pattern of blue squares on white background. The composition results quite striking for the way in which the two figures occupy the space.
The second inspiration is Enrico Castellani's Superficie Blue (Blue Surface, 1965; we will hofepully rediscover him in a future post). His works will be on display this week from 15th to 18th May at Hong Kong's Art Frieze where he will be represented by the Turin-based Mazzoleni Art Gallery.
This second inspiration is meant to engage readers on a visual and tactile level (well, unfortunately you won't be able to physically touch the screen and grasp the three-dimensional effects on the canvas surface, but maybe you can try and imagine them).
The third and last inspiration is audio and visual and it's the video for New Order's "Blue Monday" (1983). Guess Mondays aren't that bad after all...
