The picture in this post was taken in 1955 by Richard Avedon for Harper's Bazaar and I find it perfect as a follow up to yesterday's post since the latter looked at spiral structures in architecture and fashion, while this picture references archiectural linearity through tailormade perfection.
This picture was indeed part of a photoshoot that explored innovative silhouettes for jackets focused on narrow and perfectly set lapels and cleanly defined sleeves set in at the shoulders.
These features marked the suit in the picture with its 29 inch-long jacket in Staron silk tussah the colour of a peanut shell, belted to the waist and shaped out below it (by fashion company Traina-Norrell). The jacket was in this case matched with a thin black wool skirt, a velvet banded peanut straw hat by Emme and cropped gloves by Dawnelle.
