A few students got in touch via email after reading yesterday's post to ask further information about some of the artists mentioned and enquiry which of them in my opinion could be used as inspiration for fashion collections.
Well, you could virtually move from any of the artists mentioned in that post since they are all equally exciting, but there is one of them that would lead to interesting experiments, Edoardo Landi.
Born in 1937, he graduated in architecture, but also studied industrial design.
He became part of the Gruppo N collective in 1959 and started supporting the international group called Nuova Tendenza (New Trend).
He is well-known for his use of elementary geometric forms suspended between optical and kinetic art.
Among his best examples there are Spherical variable reflection (1968) in aluminium, plastic and wood, and his modern reinterpretations of his original optical works in two tones (black/white or red/green) such as Virtual Cube (2004).
I'm sure that Landi's works could lead to exciting experiments on a print level, but also for what regards the choice of materials to employ for both clothes and accessories.
