One of the most interesting aspects of the Pitti Filati event is definitely the fact that each manufacturer showcases in its stand a selection of designs that can be made using specific yarns they produce.
This means that some stands end up being a reason for many photo opportunities even for people who do not know much about the most technical aspects of yarns. Italian manufacturer Lineapiù Italia presented at the latest Pitti Filati a large stand with a selection of designs going from the casual to the elegant and the extravagant.
Originally founded by Tuscan entrepreneur Giuliano Coppini, Lineapiù actually went through a series of financial problems, ending up in extraordinary liquidation.
Relaunched by Alessandro Bastagli as Lineapiù Italia, it closed the last financial year with quite positive results and is also considering the reintegration of a few Lineapiù workers currently on redundancy payment.
Last year's positive results were produced by the company's investments in technology, research and innovation.
At the latest Pitti Filati the company opened the stand with two fuchsia/shocking pink dresses made using yarns from the FilClass line that Lineapiù Italia is now relaunching.
The latter is mainly a functional and practical yet cheaper line of yarns produced by Lineapiù. For what regards the new trends for the main line the company is instead still focusing on luxurious yarns with an exotic or an avant-garde edge such as an innovative viscose ideal to create extremely light membrane-like garments.
For the Spring/Summer 2013 season Lineapiù is also introducing a very special yarn made with pearl powder. This material is mainly employed in the beauty industry but, when it is added to fibres during the spinning process, pearl particles distribute themselves in the fibres and on their surface. Knits made with these yarns can help taking care of the skin, maintaining its elasticity and even reducing serum lipid peroxide levels.
Apart from replicating last year's successful sales and maybe increase them by 3-4%, among the future plans of the company there is its expansion in Asia and in particular in China, trying to beat the Chinese markets not on price but on quality.
Another future aim of the company is working towards the Lineapiù Italia Foundation: the latter will manage and develop the yarn and stitch museum/archive (Museo Archivio Punti) that will preserve all the stitches created by the original Lineapiù in the last 36 years, and relaunch a master for young people interested in studying the intricate and fascinating universe of yarns (fashion students take note).
The museum - that should open in July, to coincide with the next edition of Pitti Filati - should be based in Florence in Via Brunelleschi.
As a final note to this quick feature about Lineapiù Italia, I'm posting here further images of the knits showcased at the company's stand, hoping they will provide readers with further ideas and inspirations.
