Members of the audience at the "Trans/National Clothing Conference" at Bath Spa University did their fair share of knitting during a presentation by textile artist Alison Harper. Even the most unassuming people in the audience - John the technician included (well done, John! ) - tried their hand at kntting, almost anticipating the celebrations for Wool Week that kicked off a few days ago in London.
While the main idea behind this event is attracting customers and convince them to buy and spend (two things many of us refuse to do for different reasons, the lingering crisis being the main one...), there are also events that may prove more interesting for researchers, fashion students and art curators.
One of them is "Wool Modern" at La Galleria, Pall Mall, an exhibition curated by Charlotte Lurot, featuring knitwear pieces by different designers, including Alexander McQueen, André Courrèges, Sandra Backlund, Sonia Rykiel, Vivienne Westwood and Yves Saint Laurent.
I passed in front of La Galleria last Tuesday morning to see how the preparations were going. Knitwear fans will be happy to know that the event is on until 28th September, so there's still penty of time to go and see some rather original wool pieces.
