I have a passion for puppets, marionettes and for projects combining them with fashion such as the Théâtre de la Mode concept. Yet it's good to know that I'm not the only one out there harbouring these obsessions.
I've just received an email from Marite Mastina and Rolands Peterkops from the Mareunrol's duo announcing they will be taking part in the Terni-based Fast - International Festival of Contemporary Arts with a unique puppet show directed by themselves, performed by Armands Bergis and with sound effects by Kaspars Grosevs.
Entitled "Tenant/Untitled Movement" and scheduled as part of the "Intersection" programme tonight and on 25th September (both starting at 7pm), the show consists in a loop-like performance with no beginning and no end taking place on a multiple wall-like stage designed for marionettes.
Each marionette will inhabit a little space carved out of this wall and the installation/performance will tell different stories about bored tenants who, spending too much time in their apartments, start hearing and seeing strange things happening around them, from scary noises to room distortions and annoying sounds (reminds a bit like the dark plot of the short story "There's Someone in the House" by Ludmilla Petrushevskaya...).
Loneliness and alienation are the main themes tackled in this performance that will also have a link with fashion since all the marionettes will obviously have a designer wardrobe by Mareunrol's. They may be bored and alienated tenants, but they will also be (slightly disturbing yet) very stylish marionettes.
