Six years ago there was quite a debate in the UK about banning hooded sweatshirts from shopping centres to prevent young people from hiding their faces.
The debates about hoodies obviously resurfaced after the London riots, yet in the aftermath of the events not many journalists and commentators managed to focus on the problem like Jo Turney did during the "Trans/National Clothing Conference" at Bath Spa University.
Turney analysed the meaning of the hoodie, its social implications as an identity concealer and the positions of politicians such as Prime Minister David Cameron about the issue. You can listen to Turney's lecture by clicking on the following banner.
