While this post is a follow up to the previous one about Chanel, it also moves from some of the pieces showcased at the “Inspiration and Vision” exhibition currently on at the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum.
Among the pieces exhibited at the museum there are indeed Thayaht’s "Pesci (Ritmi Subacquei)" (Fish – Underwater Rhythms, 1931) painting, the "Nautica "bowl (1927) in polychrome porcelain by Richard-Ginori based on a design by Gio Ponti and Sonia Delaunay’s printed muslin silk fabric "Gros ruban composé de bandes ondulantes" (Ribbon pattern created by waves).
These pieces are compared to Ferragamo’s court shoe in embroidered calfskin in shades of pale and brighter blue.
There is a dress (mentioned in the previous post) in Chanel’s Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 2011-12 collection characterised by wave-like motifs created by dark blue and white pearls on a navy background that somehow calls to mind Delaunay's fabric.
For further wave-ralated inspirations, check out the Gio Ponti for Richard-Ginori ceramic pieces currently exhibited at the Pirelli skyscraper in Milan (exhibition "Gio Ponti. Il fascino della ceramica", on until 31st July). Some of the pieces showcased here move from neoclassical inspirations combined with geometric elements and also feature beautiful stylised marine motifs (View this photo).
