"I have a special connection with Japan," French artist and fashion designer Pierre-Louis Mascia recounts.
“I fell in love with this country 17 years ago and discovered its art and culture and some truly extraordinary people. I spent a few months in the South of Japan as well, on the Island of Shikoku, where I learnt how to make washi paper.”
Shocked and saddened by the reports coming from Japan about the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear emergency, Mascia decided it was time to give his active support to the cause and created a mini-collection of his iconic scarves entitled “Pierre-Louis Mascia Supports Japan”.
Released in a wooden box, the scarves feature three original designs mixing obi prints with European patterns on double face silk. Part of the profits will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
“I admire Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto and Comme des Garçons’ designs. They really brought some amazing revolutions into fashion and I felt it was time to offer what I can do best – my scarves – to give a hand,” concludes Mascia.
The "Pierre-Louis Mascia Supports Japan" scarves are currently available from Luisa Via Roma in Florence and L’Eclaireur in Paris.
