I don't think I should be complaining if, after numerous posts on Space Age fashion and inspirations (erm, there will probably be another one before the year ends...), praising futuristic metal wear and pointing out comparisons between current collections and 60s Space Age rocket-shaped hoods and cloaks to innocent fellow travellers on planes (I was just entertaining them...), rather than getting a proper Christmas present for a grown-up, I end up getting a space-inspired...toy!
But, as Odie Cologne used to tell King Leonardo in that 60s cartoon series when the king got the umpteenth television set, "This is a special one".
In fact it 's a "Barbie Loves Buzz" from the Toy Story 3 film given to me by my brother and nephews who are very much into taking the piss out of my personal obsessions and making my very cynical self laugh a lot.
I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the doll's wardrobe and accessories comprising a silvery mini-dress in 60s style plus necklace and bangles in Buzz Lightyear colours, with Space Ranger winged symbols embedded here and there on the earrings and boots.
I thought the new Barbie deserved her own setting which I found in my nephews' plastic model of the solar system. Yes, don't worry, I will obviously put back the solar system together very soon. Let's say as soon as I'm given a Barbie Paco Rabanne in a metal dress for my approaching birthday...
