Elsa Schiaparelli is definitely my favourite designer. I explored in previous posts her work and influence on contemporary fashion (in case you're interested in further posts about Schiap, please browse the blog using the "Search" button at the bottom of this post) and was very happy to meet yesterday during the "Fashion in Fiction" conference at Drexel University, Philadelphia, Victoria Pass from the University of Rochester.
Victoria focused in her paper on the dark elements in Schiaparelli's designs and made some interesting comparisons between Schiap's works and Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier and Olivier Theyskens'.
I'm embedding here a couple of clips (the first one is a 5-minute preview of a longer video, so you will have to install Veoh Video Compass to wacth the full video in your browser or downoad it to your PC) that feature images of some of Schiap's extraordinary designs juxtaposed to more contemporary collections. Special thanks to Victoria for letting me post the clips filmed during the lecture.
