I woke up this morning with three main almost maniacal obsessions: listening to some early Orange Juice's songs, mainly 'Falling and Laughing' and 'Blue Boy', carrying on a personal research on the importance of craftsmanship in fashion that I started a while back and creating something new for myself.
I dealt quickly and successfully with the first obsession, then locked myself away in a library hoping to focus on embroidering techniques, but I ended up being sidetracked by a book about contemporary art. In the meantime I came up with an idea for a new necklace reusing some scraps of leather lying around the house.
I thought I had somehow managed to more or less satisfy today's personal obsessions when I saw Scott Ramsay Kyle's new video and I realised I actually hadn't quenched my thirst for craftsmanship yet.
"Chelsea Boy" is a self-made film showing the designer applying a few thousands sparkling Swarovski crystals on a football top. Though that may sound like a very simple act, the video could be considered as a quick introduction to a wider theme with some psychological connection, "obsessive embroidering".
Kyle is at present focusing on different art projects, creating art-led pieces and experimenting further about the obsessive embroidery theme. I'm curious to see how the design featured in the video will look like once it's finished and in which ways Kyle will develop further his maniacal passion for embroideries (any chance, Scott, of getting a brief thrilling horror shot about this theme with Amy Gwatkin?)
Having found the video contagious I think I'll have to go back to today's personal obsession with renewed interested in embroidery, beads, crystals and appliqued motifs, but, while I crawl back into my creative hole, try to keep updated with Scott Ramsay Kyle's work by following his tweets about his art and fashion projects.
