A blog can easily turn into a celebration of the self and I've never liked self-celebratory things.
Yet tomorrow is Irenebrination’s second anniversary and I feel the need to say thanks to all the people who passed by and stopped to read my (at times rambling and raging…) posts.
I started Irenebrination inspired by the late Italian journalist Irene Brin, as a channel for my thoughts and obsessions, but also as a reaction to many other online publications that focused on more commercial aspects of fashion.
My main aim was and still is to show that fashion can be an art form and becomes even more intriguing when it’s connected with art, costume design, film, history, literature, photography, social issues and even politics.
I’m not sure I’ve always managed to do so, but I’m happy to know that I’ve been useful to some of you in your researches and investigations into art, fashion and style.
Some posts unexpectedly put me into contact with the artists, fashion designers or photographers mentioned or with their relatives who wrote to say hello. This would have never happened if I had written the same things on a printed magazine, so I guess this is the best thing this blog has done for me.
So special thanks to all the people who took their time to write me and encourage me, to all the fashion design lecturers and students who emailed me opening up an interesting dialogue about a few issues linked with our mutual obsessions, to all the Twitter users who retweeted me or marked me with the #FollowFriday tag.
I'm much obliged to you all and I hope I’ll manage to stay true to my mission in future posts.
(PS The "Thanks" message in this post shows a project involving a lot of metal buckles that I will finish as soon as I regain enough strength in my hands…there's been too much typing and metal bending in the last few weeks in my life…).
