In a previous post last year I wished Happy 100th Birthday to Rita Levi Montalcini, science and style icon. I'm extremely pleased to be able to say today Happy 101th Birthday to an indefatigable woman and scientist.
Levi Montacini was celebrated today in Italy with a very special event, the Brain Forum, a day of lectures and round tables with international scientists talking about neuroscience, brain's functions and neurodegenerative diseases, just to mention a few topics featured in the programme.
I was intrigued to see that among the issues tackled there was also a session on humanoid robots, courtesy of Prof. Mitsuo Kawato, from ATR Japan, who presented humanoid robots capable of reproducing 24 human functions (absolutely fascinating!).
From a fashion point of view, I would keep an eye also on the researches carried out by Prof. Ed Boyden, from Boston's MIT, who created an optical and algorithmic hardware able to examine the role of various regions of the brain in human behaviour.
Happy Birthday one again to Rita Levi Montalcini and many thanks for being such a wonderful inspirational figure for all of us!
