The last drawings left by the late Italian fashion critic Maria Pezzi documented the costumes created by Missoni for the opening show of the "Italia 90" World Cup.
Pezzi had actually volunteered to make the drawings since she liked the costumes a lot. According to her, their colours and motifs inspired by the African continent oozed a certain joie de vivre.
Missoni’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection featured quite a few African inspirations, but also included some futuristic chromed pieces of jewellery and accessories such as shoe stirrups and sunglasses that contrasted with the raw and rough materials employed for the garments.
The accessories are designed by Margherita Maccapani Missoni, Ottavio and Rosita’s granddaughter and Angela’s daughter, and you can read more the pieces and Margherita’s work for her family’s fashion house in my
interview with her on Dazed Digital.
I’m sure Maria Pezzi would have found the contrasts created by the accessories in this collection rather interesting.
