I have quite a few vintage Italian fashion magazines from different decades, mainly from the 60s on and what always struck me about some publications was the fact that they always featured quite a few articles about knitwear, columns about how to make knitted garments and adverts about companies producing special yarns.
Knitting has become popular again in recent years, yet, unfortunately, many fashion publications do not show the same interest there was in those years for knitwear, something that has maybe got to be attributed to the concerns about the future of extremely heavy garments as the temperature on the planet has been rising.
At the same time there are quite a few young and talented designers producing quite interesting pieces.
In previous posts I mentioned Sandra Backlund, Cooperative Designs, Marina Popska and Laura Theiss, but today I'd like to focus on the latest knitwear collection by Polish designer Kamilla Wozniak.
Eastern European fashion academies are proving to be hotbeds of talents and a few months ago, Cracow also hosted its own Fashion Awards organised by the local School of Art and Fashion Design.
Wozniak's "Ocean of Wool" collection features aqua green/turquoise and emerald blue wool tops inspired by the waves of the ocean.
Though the colour is obviously the main connection to the theme of this collection, Wozniak also tried to recreate the movement of the waves through frills, ruffles and plaited motifs, coming up with voluminous tops that combine exaggerated proportions with sculptural details and rip patterns.
Wozniak's designs look versatile, comfortable yet luxurious and they also come in colours that call to mind Pantone's 2010 colour, 15-5519 Turquoise, that evoke wonderful tropical paradises especially in this joyful yet stressful time of the year.
