As you may have already heard, there will be a dedicated space for new international and national menswear designers at the London-based tradeshow Stitch.
The showcase, featuring 32 designs, will be held during the next Stitch show in February 2010 and the participants will be selected with the help of Professor Louise Wilson and the support of journalist Hywel Davies.
While this is a rather laudable initiative, I wish the fashion industry would do more to revive menswear trying to maybe involve also style publications.
Italian magazine Arianna launched in 1967 an interesting "referendum" for example.
The publication included a special photoshoot featuring fourteen menswear designs created by Italian textile company Marzotto and styled by Anna Piaggi and Anna Riva and then asked its readers to vote for them.
Fifty readers among the ones who indicated the most voted design would win a sample of that specific design in their own size.
The choice for what regarded the designs was wide and it included suits inspired by Michael Caine, Peter O'Toole, Steve McQueen and Paul Newman's style.
I definitely think this initiative should be relaunched: it would probably stir the interest of further readers in menswear design and would also be a good publicity for up and coming designers.
Thanks for posting....
