Stylist Brett Bailey introduced me a while back to the work of Los-Angeles based photographer Robin Black.
I didn’t hear from her for a while, but, a couple of days ago, I discovered she had a very valid reason for disappearing from my radar: she had been busy launching her own magazine, The New Tough.
The first issue is now online and I must admit it’s really refreshing since it features exciting work by contemporary artists and photographers, plus essays and interviews.
“I really want to keep the written pieces more thoughtful with political and social relevance,” Robin recently told me when I complimented her on the feature about Fidel Castro’s photographer Roberto Salas, “I am trying to carefully curate each issue to make it a blend of fashion, art and interesting reads!”
The next issue of The New Tough will be out in December, just before Christmas and will focus on an interesting theme, "Heretics". You can read further about Robin Black and The New Tough in my interview with her for Dazed Digital.
