I do like fashion, otherwise this blog wouldn't exist. Yet for this long and terrible week that followed Monday morning's earthquake, I understandably found writing about it extremely difficult.
How could I write about clothes, accessories or style when hundreds of people died and a town and a few villages not too far from my hometown had been destroyed in just 20 seconds, I wondered? This was the recurring thought, together with the desire of doing something for all the people who are now living in tents, especially the young ones, who have lost their friends and their university in this tragedy.
Last night I started thinking about what I could do and came up with a small project, a catwalk show featuring garments by young and talented designers that we could then auction. The money collected would be destined to the students' at L'Aquila University.
I started emailing, texting and phoning a few designers and friends this morning (sorry, if I annoyed you all, I know it's Easter...) to see if they would like to be involved. As you can understand the project at the moment is still at the embryo stage, but I'll keep you posted in the next few days/weeks.
Please note: this is not a money appeal - if you are based abroad and want to send a contribution, please check out official sites such as the British Red Cross to have further info on how to donate. If you want to contact me to contribute with your ideas or designs, please drop me an email at [email protected], in the meantime, have a Happy Easter!
