Whoever thought “the Caledonian queen of cling” Pam Hogg had left the world of fashion was terribly wrong.
After launching her latest collection at On|Off during London Fashion Week, Hogg has recently announced on a brand new site that she will open in May a one-month-only pop-up store in London’s Newburgh Street, Soho, just a few doors down from the original shop she had in the late 80s.
I have already dedicated a previous post to her a while back and briefly reviewed her A/W 09 collection in another post.
The brief Q&A with Pam Hogg that follows is an extract from a longer interview that will be featured in the next issue of Zoot Magazine (Spring/Summer 09 – available in early May).
Question: Were you excited about doing a catwalk show after such a long break?
Pam Hogg: I had a vision of it for a year. I was bursting with ideas and couldn't wait to get started. The time was absolutely right, I could feel it.
Q: At your catwalk shows there was always a great sense of anarchism and revolution, do you think that fashion has lost its original fun?
PH: I don’t think about fashion and don’t read magazines or watch fashion shows, so I had no idea about what was going on. I just love making clothes and dressing up, but the amazing reaction from the show kind of suggests that some excitement needed to be brought back. My work comes from the heart, I think that maybe there’s too much out there that has no soul.
Q: What inspired the collection you presented during LFW?
PH: It’s called “Highway Wayward Women” and has an overall title, “The Time Machine”. I started in the future with my imaginary galaxy warrior women, and travelled to the past to a bygone era of highway women robbers. The lace and tulle ‘Highway Aristo Gown’ out of this collection is my favourite. It was the first piece I created in my mind but only started it the evening before the show. I worked through the night and was still sewing it in the van on the way. I completed the design on the model Liberty Ross who stood naked for me for 20 minutes while I placed the final buds and bows. She was incredible, she stood absolutely still allowing me to work around her. I felt I was back at Art School doing life drawing!
