Spring brings with it warm weather and beautiful blossoming flowers, but many fear it as it also brings painful sinus infections.
If, like me, you are among those unfortunate ones prone to acute or chronic sinusitis and allergic rhinitis, you probably never wear perfumes and fragrances as their artificial ingredients usually make things worse.
Yet there are a few entirely natural perfume lines out there that, being free from chemical products, do not represent a health hazards for the consumer.
One of them is Honoré des Prés, a 100% natural perfume line certified by the EcoCert, Europe’s organic certification organisation.
The line – well known in selected circles in Europe and debuting this month in the States – is created by Olivia Giacobetti, a renown perfumer who has created distinguished fragrances for many companies such as Diptyque, Guerlain and L'Artisan Parfumeur. One of the most interesting facts about these fragrances is that so far they have been rather successful with people who have asthma and pregnant or nursing women.
Apparently the line is inspired by a romantic little story featuring a fictional family whose members see the act of perfuming themselves as a sort of little ritual. Inspired by their paternal grandmother Fifie’s motto “Rich is simple”, the family members started looking for the perfect alchemy of natural smells and ingredients and eventually found them in Robertet, in the Grasse region of Provence.
Basing her work on this story Giacometti created 5 “a cappella” fragrances, that is perfumes in which the natural elements speak for themselves without any artificial ingredient added. The result is an Eau de Toilette that features 85% organic ingredients, no colouring agents, phthalates, petrochemical products and synthetic addictives.
The five fragrances – characterised by exotic names such as “Chaman’s Party”, “Bonte’s Bloom” and “Sexy Angelic” – feature exotic elements such as Haitian vetiver, dried clove flowers from Madagascar, Paraguayan citrus fruit leaves, South Indian wildflowers, “Calisson” marzipan candy from Aix-en-Provence, hemlock and angelica seed. People with breathing problems should maybe try the energetic “Honoré’s Trip” that features tangerine, green limes, Mediterranean oranges and Philippine spicy pepper or the invigorating and detoxifying “Nu Green” with mint, tarragon, Indian musk and cedar.
Each perfume retails at $145 and the Honoré des Prés line is available online, in selected shops in France and Russia and now also in the United States from Bergdorf Goodman, Spirit Beauty Lounge, LuckyScent, BeautyHabit and (it will also be available soon from) Woodley and Bunny.
