One of my personal obsessions is finding links and connections between fashion and cinema, but there’s something else I love and that’s photography.
I’m not talking about fashion photography portraying beautiful models and glamorous dresses, but about photographs featuring ordinary people, images that can actually tell a story.
I woke up this morning with a sort of photography obsession on my mind, and, to keep myself busy, I started tidying up a bit.
During the tidying up process I found in a cupboard two expired film rolls. I mainly use a digital camera nowadays, and, since the films had anyway expired, I decided to use them for something else.
I unrolled the films and then played with them a bit. I folded and pleated the films stapling them, creating a sort of fan-like a ribbon.
I have just tried wearing it in different ways and it looks nice especially if worn as a brooch, a decoration for a bag, a hat or in your hair (NB use some bobby pins to fix the ribbon in your hair).
I think for today I will go for the latter as I feel I need something new and original on my head after yesterday’s “Borsalino addiction” post.
Now that I have my very personal “photography tribute” accessory, I can pass onto creating a “cinema tribute” accessory.
I only have to find the old Super 8 films that I don’t need anymore and vandalise them a bit to create a bigger and more extravagant ribbon or maybe use the thin Super 8 rolls as the straps for an old summer dress.
The possibilities are endless and knowing that I'm looking for the old films will make the tidying up process less tedious and more purposeful.
