A few days ago I discovered something interesting in a window shop in Venice’s S. Polo.
The shop is called Cenerentola (Cinderella) and belongs to Lidiana Vallongo who is specialised in restoring old fabrics such as silk or tulle, and lace, especially the precious laces made on the island of Burano.
Once she has restored them, Lidiana enriches them with embroideries in gold or silver threads, with crystal beads and sequins and transforms them into lamps with scroll-shaped shades.
Her creations are actually so refined that I feel it would be a shame to use them as lampshades and I would be interested in seeing what kind of effects would be achieved if the shades (smallest size) were worn as handcuffs.
Passing in front of her shop I also discovered Lidiana had some interesting vintage shoes by Salvatore Ferragamo and the Bologna-based Cambis.
All the shoes, in satin and leather, were in rather good conditions even though I think they were from around the 50s. Sizes were rather small (European size: 33), but these are unique pieces that shouldn't be worn, but displayed in a glass cabinet in a living room (or maybe a museum...).
I was rather struck by a pair of Ferragamo shoes in silver lame with the upper divided in two pieces and beige kid sock and lining, though it was also interesting to see some rare footwear by Cambisi displayed in the window. Well-done to Lidiana for finding them!
