Milan Fashion Week opens today with a few events such as the catwalks of the Next Generation winners Alessia De Pasquale, Marta Forghieri, Antonio Romano and Alessia Xoccato, and the presentation of the three new Regeneration brands, BeeQueen by Chicca Lualdi, Gilda Giambra and Federico Sangalli Milano.
Yet the atmosphere is certainly not the best: Roberto Cavalli has indeed cancelled the catwalk for his Just Cavalli line. The collection - which had to be showcased on Thursday - is produced and distributed by the Ittierre company, subsidiary of IT Holding, a group currently going through a bad financial crisis.
Last September, when the Spring/Summer 09 collections were presented in Milan, the Just Cavalli line was praised by the Italian fashion press for its colourful designs and mini-skirts dedicated to sensual women and ideal to wear at the most exclusive summer parties.
Just a few months after that collection was first presented, rather than organising expensive parties and events, the world of Italian fashion is seriously thinking about finding a way to get out of the crisis.
Gianfranco Ferré, owned by IT Holding, has at present confirmed the Friday catwalk, while there are fears now that also the C'N'C Costume National (another fashion label licensed by Ittierre) event might be cancelled.
