In the previous posts we looked at inspirations from a Sotheby's auction. It is obvious from the lots included in some current auctions that historical auction houses have been reshifting their attention onto younger audiences, offering more diverse lots that quite often include rare fashion pieces, cool design objects and works by up-and-coming artists. IrisVanHerpen_BetweentheLines_editAs Christmas is coming, Sotheby's has just launched a few sales featuring items at fixed prices that include a bit of everything from Iris Van Herpen's designs, included in the event "Boundless Space…The Possibilities of Burning Man", that explores the works that have emerged from Burning Man's culture, to Ettore Sottsass' Valentine typewriter for Olivetti, featured in the Modern Eclectic Collection sale.

Yes, not many of us mere mortals can afford some of these pieces (van Herpen's cropped fine black wool coat with 3D hand-painted lines, will set you back about $27,000…) and that's a shame, but dreaming about the perfect gift is free and it is always inspiring.
