It is always a pleasure to find unexpected inspirations and correspondences: for example the vividly coloured pigments in this window shop in Venice instantly make you feel happier with their bright shades while calling to mind the geometrical quilts by Brazilian artist Carolina Oneto, such as "Igualdad" (Equality).

The latter is part of the 23rd exhibition of contemporary textile art Fiber Art International, currently on in Pittsburgh (until 24th August) and featuring artworks by 55 artists from the US and abroad.

The coloured squares of the quilt accidentally call to mind the squares containing the pigments, but the quilt is obviously more symbolic, with its dark threads marking some of the areas on the fabric, hinting at inequalities such as class, gender, race and socioeconomic ones, that are unfairly used to divide and segregate people even in our modern times.
