In yesterday's post we looked at literal interpretations of a religious theme in fashion, yet it is possible to be less literal and more architectural, reworking for example the structure of a church dome in a fashion design.
Are you looking for some examples? The two short sleeved canvas dresses in yellow and white and sky blue and azure stripes illustrating this post. They were created in 1960 by Simonetta, an Italian fashion designer dear to British milliner Stephen Jones.
Both the dresses were extremely simple – one featured two bows at the waist and another a large button around the neckline – but the striking element was the pattern for the well-structured skirts that was inspired by the construction of domes. The designs also had an architectural name, they were indeed called "Parioli" dresses, from the eponymous Rome neighbourhood built in the 1930s and considered the zone of the affluent, socialite Romans.
