When Fashion Capitals Worked Together

We are posting today a rare image from Irenebrination's archives: the photograph shows a catwalk that took place at the end of an exclusive meal in July 1959 at the Taverna della Giarrettiera in Milan. The image refers to Carven's A/W 1959-60 collection.

What's so interesting about it? The garments from this collection were made by Milan-based manufacturer Guido Ruggeri Srl (a company owned by the father of Italian fashion designer Cinzia Ruggeri) and the runway marked a special collaboration: it was the very first time a French label chose to manufacture a collection (and showcase it) in Milan, it was therefore considered as a collaborative event between fashion capitals.

In a way this image should be seen as inspiring: the catwalk shows for the next season will soon be on and maybe this is the right time for designers and organisers to start looking at more innovative ways not just to showcase a collection or livestream it on the Internet and on the social media, but to collaborate together and show unity against divisive and negative attitudes.
