As seen in multiple posts on this site, it is not uncommon to spot connections between art and garments. Yet, in the last few seasons, the links with art and fashion multiplied also through interesting accessories and shoes with some arty and architectural twists.
The "Geo" collection by United Nude is for example inspired by the original desert boot as worn by the British troops in the Western Desert Campaign during World War II.
Still, some of the colour combinations, such as the Geo Wing model in poppy red, beige and black leather seem to be characterised by a Suprematist aesthetic à la Malevich, pointing towards El Lissitzsky's works such as "Beat the Whites with the Red", while calling to mind also Bauhaus posters and catalogues.
This same combination of colours actually reappears also in other models from United Nude's A/W 16 collection, but there are also other unisex footwear designs characterised by a graphic and geometrically arty configuration and colour variation.
The Era boot is for example a classic Chelsea with a United Nude Twist, but its colours call to mind Joself Albers' abstract paintings and his studies (entitled "Homage to the Square") on the perception of colours with white and black juxtaposed to lighter and darker greys .
While the shoes in this United Nude collection look architecturally minimalist, they also play on graphic and rhythmic qualities and, though wearable and almost basic in their shapes and silhouettes, they also represent finely tuned studies about the perception of colours and of geometrical formations.
