In a way you could see it coming even before they announced it. After materialising in Rodarte and Preen's Autumn/Winter 2014 collections and way before that on several children and grown up garments by H&M, and more recently on T-shirts at various other retailers such as Kiabi (not to mention the wide range of products cluttering the Internet), Star Wars characters have invaded a galaxy near you, the one called "make up".
Last week a beauty partnership was indeed announced between CoverGirl, Max Factor and Lucasfilm, a collaboration resulting in a collection of 19 products inspired by the film Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (scheduled to be released this Winter), and revolving around two themes – dark and light.
All the looks were designed by Max Factor's Global Creative Design Director Pat McGrath using the 19-piece limited edition collaboration from the make-up collection and all of them bear evoking names such as Chrome Captain, Stormtrooper, Dark Apprentice, Mystic, Droid and Jedi.
For the time being only two futuristic sci-fi looks were released, the metallic Droid, inspired by C3PO, and the graphic Stormtrooper, influenced by the black and white imperial amy trooper, while the others will remain under wraps until November, when the range of products will become available at Max Factor in Europe, Asia and The United Arab Emirates.
The collection includes six metallic lipstick shades, nail polishes, and mascaras packaged with the quotes from characters on both the light and dark side of the force (View this photo).
The range is not just an excuse to get new young fans, but also a way to win back the hearts of all those original fans who were too young for make up when the first three films came out and spent their childhood years dreaming about the incredible costumes of the Star Wars saga or mimicking the hairstyle of Princess Leia.
So it's definite, the force of the make up will be with you this Autumn, though as the new Star Wars movie is released, you can bet we will probably see more fashion-meets-Star Wars projects being announced, and we can already conjure up in our minds the editorials that we will see appearing on fashion mags.
There is one thing, though, that they could have done to improve the make up products: if only they could have developed a compact mirror integrating a Darth Vader breathing device or a sampled voice saying "You have failed me for the last time Admiral", we would have been more tempted to go for this collection.
