There are so many images nowadays we can use to wish our dearest ones a Happy New Year. Among my favourite pictures there are vintage adverts and posters such as this one for Cora champagne. This is a particularly fun one with a woman in a red dress riding a origami horse. The poster was illustrated by Jean Paul Beguin.

Better known as Jean D'Ylen, Beguin was a French painter, illustrator and poster designer who became kown for his Art Deco adverts. Born in Paris in 1886, he started his career as a jewellery designer and then became an advertising illustrator for the Paris-based company Vercasson. He worked for many brands including Fratelli Branca, Shell, Cantine Florio and Chocolat Pupier. His adverts often featured large colourful images on contrasting backgrounds and characters in movement that recreated a certain sense of dynamism. Happy 2015!
