Screening Architecture |

We analysed in a previous post the connections between cinema and the 14th Venice International Architecture Exhibition. As pointed out in that feature, assorted fragments and extracts from 82 films are indeed screened along the Arsenale itinerary in the "Monditalia" section that involves all the sectors of la Biennale, from music and dance to theatre and cinema.

Since yesterday until 21st November there will be a further link with cinema, though: it will be possible for visitors to see 22 full-length films selected from the Monditalia exhibition. Stage F of the Corderie has been transformed into a cinema hall with 4 screens, one for each side of the stage (please note: the screenings are open to the public visiting the 14th Exhibition in possession of a valid ticket).

The choice is wide and includes (among the others) Stromboli and Viaggio in Italia by Roberto Rossellini, La decima vittima by Elio Petri, Il Vangelo secondo Matteo by Pier Paolo Pasolini, Profondo rosso by Dario Argento and Banditi a Orgosolo by Vittorio De Seta.

Today the programme fetaures L'avventura by an architectural and stylish director, Michelangelo Antonioni and featuring Monica Vitti, a film that will surely provide wonderful inspirations.

"In Monditalia", stated the Biennale President Paolo Baratta in an official press release, "some aspects of the situation in Italy are collected and shown through research projects conducted ad hoc. The complexity of this reality, which is paradigmatic of what happens elsewhere in the world, must not be denied or concealed, but must be deliberately experienced as sources of regeneration and hence also as points of reference for architecture."
