From The Cloak of Invisibility to The Collar of Invisibility

Cloaks, capes and mantles of invisibility or concealment – garments that make the wearer magically disappear – abound in folklore, fairy tales and fantasy stories, but so they do in fashion.

In the '30s Schiaparelli designed her cape de verre employing rhodophane, and also came up with a cellophane scarf, but throughout the decades designers developed successful examples of see-through outerwear to cheer up wearers even in the most rainy days.

Thinking about the cloak of invisibility and the possibility of disappearing to human eyes by wearing a special accessory (rather than a garment) and inspired by Daniel Buren's works in which the artist plays with light and colours, like his pergola-like structure entitled "4 Colours at 3 Metres High" (2014), I came up with three "collars" of invisibility.

I mainly used clear PVC and strips of neon pink and yellow cotton to create some contrasts. It's a quick and fun project for a rainy summer day and it may lead to interesting projects depending on how many colours/yarns/materials you want to use. Enjoy!
